On this day in U.S. history, the initials “O.K.” were first published in The Boston Morning on March 23, 1839. At the time, it was intended as an abbreviation of “oll korrect,” a popular slang misspelling of “all correct.” What began as a humorous term eventually became one of the most widely recognized slang phrases in the English language.
