ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Claire Thompson scored two goals and added an assist on her 27th birthday, Maddie Rooney had 24 saves — including three in the shootout — to help the Minnesota Frost beat the Toronto Sceptres 4-3. Britta Curl-Salemme and Thomspon, a Toronto native, each scored a goal — as Toronto (4-0-3-6) scored just once — in the shootout for Minnesota (5-4-2-4). Jesse Compher made it 2-2 just more than four minutes into the third period, but Thompson put Minnesota back in front about five minutes later. Renata Fast scored the fifth power-play goal of the game — the most in a PWHL game this season — with 8:05 left in regulation to make it 3-3 and force the scoreless OT. Taylor Heise had two assists for the Frost.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov needs surgery on the lingering lower-body injury he recently returned from and will be sidelined for at least a month. General manager Bill Guerin said Kaprizov is expected to be back with the team later this season. The impact of his absence will be stemmed a bit by the two-week break on the NHL schedule next month for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. Kaprizov initially missed 12 games and rejoined the Wild last week. He played in three games but was not himself. Kaprizov has 23 goals and 29 assists.
