MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Record setting early in person voting in Wisconsin.
A nearly 40% increase in early in-person absentee voting over 2020. Not surprising, says Wood County Clerk and Wisconsin County Clerks Association President Trent Miner.
“You look in your mailbox daily and find something from either of the parties or any of the candidates that say, you know, vote early, vote early. So I think that is turning out a lot of folks,” Miner said.
So that’s a lot of absentee ballots, and local elections officials are prohibited from starting to count them until the morning of Election Day.
“When we go to bed, depending on how late you go to bed on election night, you’re not going to know who won the presidency, probably,” Miner added.
A bipartisan bill to allow processing of early ballots to begin on Monday passed the state Assembly but failed to advance in the Senate.
