RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
Whether or not you’re participating in No Mow May, when you do cut your grass, avoid blowing the clippings into the road. They can be a crash hazard for motorcyclists, says Greg Patzer, with the state Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council.
“And by itself, when it’s dry, it’s not too much of a hazard, but if it’s wet, it really becomes slippery. It’s like wet leaves in the fall,” Patzer said. “Direct your glass clippings back in and not on the roadway. If the road is damp, it’s a slippery situation for motorcyclists.”
As we enter prime riding season, Patzer urged drivers to look carefully for motorcycles on the roadway, especially when crossing traffic for left-hand turns.
He says, “Look twice, save a life.”
