MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms Wisconsin’s first human case of H1N1 bird flu.
The state Department of Health Services first announced the case in Barron County this week on Wednesday. A farm worker exposed to an infected commercial poultry flock contracted the virus. DHS said this week that the risk of exposure for the public remains low, though people who work with infected birds, poultry or cows are at higher risk.
DHS continues to monitor other farm workers in Barron County who may have been exposed.
