A humble master of the 21st century folk tradition\, the Duluth-based musician is fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The sounds from Parr’s working-class upbringing—including Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie—imbue his music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. \n“I feel like I stand on a lot of big shoulders\,” Parr says. “I hope that I’ve brought a little bit of myself to the music.” \nIn his recent 2024 release\, Little Sun\, Parr weaves together stories celebrating music\, community\, and communing with nature. Peter Wise is a senior at Chetek/Weyerhaeuser High School and a member of the Red Cedar Symphony percussion section. \nAshley Springer\, a junior at UW-Stevens Point\, will perform the first movement of Edouard Lalo’s Symphonic Espagnole\, Op. 21\, on violin with the orchestra.
